Elevator Combination Boxes — technical overview

What this family covers

Lift installations need control assemblies that are ready to mount rather than built from parts on site. This family covers pre-assembled combination boxes, the button box components that go into car and landing stations, and bypass panels used during maintenance and inspection.

The range

  • Elevator combination boxes — pre-assembled enclosures supplied ready for connection.
  • Button box components — the operators, contacts and plates that make up car and landing push button stations, including push-and-pull versions with vision (flagged) and international socket outlet options.
  • Bypass panels — assemblies used to bypass circuits under controlled conditions during maintenance and inspection.

Contacts and standards

Contacts are spring type, slow action, single breaking, with rated impulse withstand voltage, rated enclosed thermal current and conditional short-circuit current stated in the catalogue tables. The range follows IEC 60947-5-5, IEC 60947-2-11:2014 and EN 60204-1. Bodies are thermoplastic, heat and shock resistant. Special contact designs are possible to customer specification.

A note on IP rating

All boxes have an IP54 protection rating. However, the rating of the finished assembly is set by the lowest-rated product fitted into it — a box with a lower rated operator installed is no longer an IP54 assembly. This is worth checking at specification rather than at inspection.

Frequently asked questions

What determines the IP rating of a finished combination box?

The lowest IP rating among the assembled products. The boxes themselves are IP54, but fitting a lower rated component into one lowers the rating of the whole assembly.

Can contact configurations be changed?

Yes. Special contact designs are possible according to customer specification, alongside the standard spring-type, slow-action, single-breaking contacts.

Which standards does the range follow?

IEC 60947-5-5, IEC 60947-2-11:2014 and EN 60204-1.
