Metal Enclosures — technical overview

Where metal enclosures fit

Where a plastic board is not enough — because the panel is large, carries weight, sits in an industrial environment or has to resist impact — the enclosure is made of sheet steel. Demte produces wall-mounted metal enclosures in two series that differ in sheet thickness and sealing, so the choice comes down to where the panel will live.

The two series

  • K series — 0.80 mm DC01 sheet steel, IP54, for indoor use. The lighter of the two, sized for control panels and distribution inside a building.
  • E series — 1.20 mm DC01 sheet steel, IP66, for demanding and outdoor-facing positions where dust and water jets have to be kept out.

Both series ship with a galvanized mounting plate included, so devices can be laid out and fixed without sourcing a plate separately, and both have top and bottom gland plates that are removed for drilling and refitted after the cable entries are made — the cable work happens on a loose plate at the bench, not inside the mounted enclosure.

Body and finish

Bodies are electrostatically powder coated in RAL 7035, the standard light grey of electrical equipment. The coating is applied after forming, so edges and folds are covered as well as the flat faces.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the K and E series?

Sheet thickness and protection. K series uses 0.80 mm steel with IP54 and is intended for indoor use; E series uses 1.20 mm steel with IP66 for harsher, wetter and more exposed positions.

Is a mounting plate included?

Yes. Both series are supplied with a galvanized mounting plate.

How are cable entries made?

Through the top and bottom gland plates. They are removable, so the entries are drilled on the bench and the plate is refitted, rather than drilling into a mounted enclosure.
