Marking and Labeling — technical overview

Why marking is part of the panel, not an afterthought

A panel that is not marked is a panel that has to be traced from scratch every time someone opens it. Marking is what turns a correct installation into a maintainable one, and in most standards and inspections it is a requirement rather than good practice.

The range

  • Panel and button labels — foam-backed panel labels, round perforated button labels, and "P" and "T" type flag labels in 30 mm and 40 mm lengths.
  • Cable labels — transparent spiral labels wrapped on the cable, labels inserted in a transparent tube, and labels fixed with two cable ties.
  • Terminal marking — strip terminal block and carrier labels in 11 mm and 9.5 mm widths.
  • Cable marking sleeves — transparent sleeves that slide over the conductor before termination.
  • Coloured tapes and tag labels — coloured tapes, pipe marking systems, and badge, carrier, stopper and group tag labels. Inner panel strip labels come in 15, 21 and 40 mm widths on 20 m rolls.
  • Pre-printed warning labels — ready warning signs in triangles with edge lengths of 25, 50, 100, 150 and 220 mm.
  • Ribbons and printers — thermal transfer ribbons in 35 to 110 mm widths, on 74 m and 300 m rolls.

Printing

The labels in this range are printed by thermal transfer, which fuses the image into the label surface rather than laying ink on top of it — the marking survives handling, solvents and years inside a warm panel. The 2300 and 2320 ribbons are the recommended pairing for the label stock.

Frequently asked questions

Which ribbon should I use?

Ribbons 2300 and 2320 are the recommended types for this label range. Ribbon width is chosen to cover the label width, from 35 mm up to 110 mm.

How are cables marked where a sleeve cannot be fitted?

With a label wrapped as a transparent spiral on the cable, a label inserted in a transparent tube, or a label fixed with two cable ties. Sleeves have to be slid on before termination, so the other three methods are used on cables that are already terminated.

Are warning signs supplied ready printed?

Yes. Ready warning signs are stocked as triangles with edge lengths of 25, 50, 100, 150 and 220 mm.
